But the things we have in common set me apart from most of the people in my community, and I am in between these two worlds with enough of my heart to fight for justice in the other. [05:12]

In the late '40s, my dad -- a Pullman porter , son of a slave -- bought a house in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx, and a few years later, he married my mom. [05:25]
