While preparing for my talk 当我在准备这场演讲时,
I was reflecting on my life and trying to figure out where exactly was that moment when my journey began. 也一併思考我的人生,试着去找出 我的人生旅程究竟是从何时开始。

I always used to think that my beginning was one afternoon in my community when my mother had told me that I had escaped three arranged marriages by the time I was two. 我总习惯地认为 我故事的开始是在一个社区的下午我妈告诉我 我二岁时,逃过三次被安排好的婚姻。

Thanks to my father's very strict rules about connecting to our customs, 感谢老爸对习俗延续有非常严格的要求,
I had to live a beautiful life of songs, cultures, traditions, stories, mountains, and a lot of sheep. 我必需生活在有歌声,文化,传统,故事,山林, 还有羊群的美好生活中。

Honor killings is a custom where men and women are suspected of having relationships before or outside of the marriage, and they're killed by their family for it. 「名誉处决」是一种习俗 当男人和女人在婚前或婚姻之外 被怀疑有关系, 被他们的家庭成员以此之名杀害。

A custom that kills did not make any sense to me, and I knew I had to do something about it this time. 以风俗杀人,我一点也无法理解, 我知道关于这件事,这次我必须做点什么,

In those days, we were living in a very small, one-roomed house in Karachi. 当时,我们住在卡拉奇一个非常小,一个房间的房子。

I connected with people in the U.K., the U.S., Australia and Canada, and created a campaign called 我与英国,美国,澳洲,加拿的人连系, 而且成立位一个活动

It became enormous in just a few months. 在几个月之内,这个活动变得很大。

Our car was stoned at one point. 我们车子一度被砸。
One day I went to the office and found our metal signboard wrinkled and broken as if a lot of people had been hitting it with something heavy. 有一天我进办公室,发现金属作的招牌 皱起来并破裂,好像多人以重物敲击。

I thought this was the biggest failure of my entire life. 我想这是我人生中最大的挫败。

As a teenager, I was blaming myself for everything that happened. 青少年的我,为所发生的事情责怪我自己。
And it turns out, when we started reflecting, we did realize that it was actually me and my team's fault. 结果是,当我们反省自身 就更加了解到,这确实是我和我团队的错。
There were two big reasons why our campaign had failed big time. 有二大理由说明了我们团队非常失败。
One of those, the first reason, is we were standing against core values of people. 其中第一个原因是, 我们违反人类的核心价值。

I would find my cousins and friends with scarves on their faces, and I would ask, "What happened?" 看到我堂表姐妹和朋友脸上的疤, 我会问:这是怎么回事?

But we are working in the streets for you! 但我们站在街上为你讨公道!
We are changing the policies. 我们改变策略。

We went back to the communities and we said we are very ashamed of what we did. 我们回到社区 并且说我们为所做所为感到可耻。

Women were coming to make embroidery, and going through a life-changing process of education, learning about their rights, what Islam says about their rights, 妇女们来这里刺绣, 透过教育的程序来改变生活, 来了解她们的权利,伊斯兰教赋予和承认她们的权利.

and enterprise development, how they can create money, and then how they can create money from money, how they can fight the customs that have been destroying their lives from so many centuries, because in Islam, in reality, women are supposed to be shoulder to shoulder with men. 和企業发展,她们如何开辟财源, 如何以钱去赚钱, 如何打破几世纪来破坏她们生活 的风俗习惯, 因为在伊斯兰国家,现实生活中, 女人应该要与男人齐心协力地。

Women have so much status that we have not been hearing, that they have not been hearing, and we needed to tell them that they need to know where their rights are and how to take them by themselves, because they can do it and we can't. 女人占有相当重要的地位那是她们从未听过的, 她们从未听过的, 我们必须要告诉她们她们必须要知道 她们的权利是什么如何自行使用权利, 因为她们可以做,但是我们不行。

We would make a center inside where 30 women will come for six months to learn about value addition of traditional embroidery, enterprise development, life skills and basic education, 我们设立一个中心站里面有 30 个妇女 学习六个月的传统刺绣的附加价值, 企業发展,生活技能和基本教育,

After six months, we would connect these women to loans and to markets where they can become local entrepreneurs in their communities. 六个月之后,我们连络这些妇女去贷款,去做行销 成为社区里的本地企業家。

These women you see here, they have strong skills and potential to be leaders. 你所看到的这些女人, 她们有强大的技能有潜力成为领导者。

All we had to do was remove the barriers that surrounded them, and that's what we decided to do. 我们所要做的事是除去困住她们的障碍, 这是我们决定要做的事。

A lot of men started seeing the visible changes in their wife. 许多男性开始察觉到他们妻子明显的改变。

They stopped them from coming to the centers, and this time, we were like, okay, time for strategy two. 男性会阻止妻子成为家庭核心, 这时,我们高兴地,好,是使用策略二的时候。
We went to the fashion industry in Pakistan and decided to do research about what happens there. 我们到到巴基斯坦的时尚圈 决定去研究那里发生了什么事情。

In 2013, we launched our first Sughar Hub instead of a center. 在 2013 年,开办第一个「苏葛」中心取代一个中心。
