Now you may ask, why have I done these things? 你可能会问我为什么要这样做,
They're not really typical for a musician's day-to-day life. 因为这不是音乐家 日常会做的事。

Well, I did it because I fell in love with the music and I wanted to share it with as many people as possible. 我之所以这样做,是因为我爱上音乐, 然后我想分享给更多人听, 越多人越好。
It started a couple of years ago. 大概几年前,
I was sitting at home on the couch with the flu and browsing the Internet a little, when I found out that Handel had written works for the keyboard. 我感冒窝在家里的沙发上, 上网看了一下, 突然发现韩德尔有写过 钢琴的琴谱。

Well, I was surprised. I did not know this. 我当然很讶异,因为先前不知道,
So I downloaded the sheet music and started playing. 所以我就下载了谱开始弹。

And what happened next was that I entered this state of pure, unprejudiced amazement . 接下来, 我进入到很纯粹的状态, 完全是种很单纯的讶异。

It was an experience of being totally in awe of the music, and I had not felt that in a long time. 这种经验 全然是对音乐的敬畏, 而我已经好久没有感受到了。

The first piece that I played through started like this. 我当时弹的第一首曲子 一开始是这样的。

Well this sounds very melancholic , doesn't it? 听起来很悲伤,对吧？

And I turned the page and what came next was this. 但当我翻到下一页, 就变成这样。

So within a couple of minutes, and the piece isn't even finished yet, 才几分钟的时间, 整首曲子都还没完,
I experienced two very contrasting characters: beautiful melancholy and sheer energy. 我就经历了两种截然不同的情绪: 美丽的忧愁与十足的活力。

And I consider these two elements to be vital human expressions . 我认为这两种元素 是人类情绪的命脉。

And the purity of the music makes you hear it very effectively. 而音乐的纯粹让你能快速直接地感受到。

I've given a lot of children's concerts for children of seven and eight years old, and whatever I play, whether it's Bach, Beethoven , even Stockhausen, or some jazzy music, they are open to hear it, really willing to listen, and they are comfortable doing so. 我去很多儿童演奏会表演过, 台下小孩约七、八岁, 不管我弹什么,巴哈、贝多芬, 甚至是史托克豪森, 或是爵士乐也好, 他们都敞开心胸聆听, 真的很愿意听, 也觉得这么做很自在。

And when classes come in with children who are just a few years older, 11, 12, I felt that I sometimes already had trouble in reaching them like that. 但换成另一组小朋友的时候, 他们的年纪大一点, 大约十一、十二岁,要让他们达到刚刚那种境界 就比较困难了。
The complexity of the music does become an issue , and actually the opinions of others — parents, friends, media — they start to count. 音乐的复杂性变成问题。 其实,他人的意见, 来自父母、朋友、媒体的意见也开始造成影响。

They are in this constant state of wonder, and I do firmly believe that we can keep listening like these seven-year-old children, even when growing up. 他们还处在对每件事都好奇的阶段, 而我坚信,我们可以继续 用这些七岁孩童的方式聆听, 不管我们几岁。
And that is why I have played not only in the concert hall but also on the street, online, in the air: to feel that state of wonder, to truly listen, and to listen without prejudice. 这就是为什么 我不只在演奏厅里表演, 也会在街上、网路上或空中表演: 去感受那种好奇的心境、 真正地聆听, 以不带偏见的方式聆听。
